The word “estate” conjures images of sweeping pastoral scenery, tree-lined drives, great houses, and formal gardens. The very idea suggests a sense of permanence over time and shared history on a large scale. In 2010, our team was presented with the immense challenge of creating that same feeling – from nothing. Our clients purchased a parcel of 30 acres, originally empty agricultural land with no especially intriguing features and few mature trees, with a dream of transforming it into their own modern estate. Over the next three years, our team designed and collaborated with the clients, architect, and builder to create a masterplan that would mature into a grandeur over time. The pond, which looks as if it has been part of the land forever, was dug and populated. Formal garden areas around the house provide generous space for entertaining family and friends. A small vineyard speaks to the agricultural heritage of the property, and views take in native forest, fields, and distant hills.
